Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Tell me more about the way you photograph at a wedding?

Our studio typically photographs a wedding utilising a contemporary/documentary/candid style of photography – getting ready, ceremony, post-ceremony and reception  (approx. 70% of the wedding) – But there are usually some posed bridal portraits, family portraits and a couples /bridal party portrait session as part of the day (approx. 30% of the wedding).  We usually require a list of combinations of family members that are required to be photographed on the day – the family portraits are usually taken post-ceremony.  Although Daniel will cater his photography for any schedule or arrangement you desire as long as its arranged at the time of booking.  We can provide a complete ‘candid’ documentary coverage on request with no posed photographs or intervention whatsoever – be aware that this is a rare request.

2.  What sort of coverage do you offer?

Usually a minimum of 4-5 hours photography up until cake-cutting / first dance (wedding schedule adapted to your needs including longer coverage if required).  Shorter coverages are also available depending on date required.

Suggested wedding coverage (based on a comprehensive all-day coverage):

a) groom getting ready with family (inc. portraits) – 1-1.5 hours.

b) bride getting ready with family – 2-3 hours (includes bridal portraits).

c) wedding ceremony – 30 minutes (usually arive 15-20 minutes before ceremony starts) – also allow 15 mins post-ceremony for family and friends to congratulate you.

d) family portraits – 30 minutes (Daniel can also provide for a complete group photo of everyone who attended the wedding ceremony – it is suggested that the photo be taken immediately before the family portraits) – also it would help if the list of combination of family members to be photographed be given to the best man or family member to call the appropriate family members when required.  We do all the arranging of the group for the portraits.

e) bride & groom couples portrait session (including bridal party) – 1.5 – 3 hours (take care to allow for traveling time between photo locations.  Also very large bridal groups can significantly slow down the photo taking during this session, so please allow enough time for this.  Daniel usually takes a small number of creative bridal party portraits  - the rest of the pictures are just with the bride & groom.

f) Reception – this includes all the speeches, entrance to the reception, cake cutting, garter/flower throwing, candid head shots of the guests, mini-group shots, first dance, fun dance floor pictures of the guests, wedding party departure – allow between 4-6 hours.

3.  How do you process all my photographs?

After your wedding, we organise all the images that were taken on the day and delete any duplicates, blinking eyes, turned heads etc – the negatives are then edited in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for colour, contrast and exposure.  A small number of images may be duplicated and edited in black & white / sepia or with cross-cross colouring.  All images that are in your wedding album or for print enlargements will be processed further using special photoshop actions and effects to give you a really ‘WOW’ album or print.

4.  How many images are taken at the wedding and supplied to us?

We take a unlimited images on the day – sometimes duplicates of the same composition to get the best angle (usually best for most candid photography) – these images are trimmed down to provide you a minimum of 50-70 fully edited images per hour.  No images are left out unless they are duplicates, blinking eyes, turned heads etc.

5.  Do we get the High Resolution Images as part of our package?

We generally provide the option of including the high resolution images as part of your package – this can be discussed when we are tailoring a package suitable for your needs and will be priced accordingly.

6.  Do you have backup equipment and backup storage for my wedding images?

We have duplicates of all our equipment and can also source loan equipment as well at short notice if required.  Everything is insured and is serviced regularly.  Our studio has 3 backup sources for all photographic digital negatives – remote online data storage, multiple external hard drives, and duplicated compact flash cards.  Our cameras have dual write facility for your negatives (2 x CF Card slots) – so your wedding images are safe in case of a card failure.

7.  How is your studio set-up and what type of equipment do you use?

We use only the most advanced photographic equipment and editing software – our studio has 2 graphics editing PC’s with adobe creative suite and lightroom. We have a fantastic display studio located in Essendon / Niddrie – please feel free to contact Daniel at anytime to drop in for a coffee/tea to check out our award winning albums and prints.

8.  What if Daniel can’t photograph my wedding due to unforeseen circumstances?

If Daniel dies, is hospitalised, or has traumatic family circumstances – then we can guarantee that we won’t attend your wedding!  Daniel has two other associate photographers who have been specially trained in Daniel’s style to photograph your day if needed.   Your package will be exactly the same as you booked and will not change.  You also have the option of a full refund if this happens in case you prefer to find another photographer.

9.  Do we need to supply a meal for the photographer?

If we are required to stay for the reception – a meal place must be booked.  We prefer to be fed when you are eating your main meal – so we can take photographs when you are not eating.  Saves us from collapsing on the dance floor:) Otherwise we may have to leave for a period of time from the reception to obtain a meal.

10.  Do you use an assistant or a second photographer?

Our studio only uses an assistant for weddings where the logistics make it impossible for us to work alone.  If you prefer to have 2 photographers on the day (ie Daniel and one of his associates at the same time) – this can be arranged for an extra fee – usually $85 per hour extra or $700 for an all-day wedding.  The advantage of having 2 photographers is that the 2nd photographer can capture many angles that the main photographer can’t.  Also both photographers have a slightly different creative eye thus providing a lot more variety and number of wedding images.  Very useful for large weddings of 150 guests ++ .

11.  You have just photographed my wedding – what happens now?

Well…….you go on your honeymoon and relax!!  And thats when I get to work and edit your wedding negatives – this takes approximately 4 weeks to complete and may take up to 5 weeks during peak wedding season in the summer.  If Daniel has time – he usually tries to edit a few sample images from your wedding soon after the wedding day and makes a blog post on his website so you and your family get a sneak preview of the wedding day.

When the negatives have been edited – they are then loaded onto a secure-online viewing gallery with a password for your perusal.  This may be shared with family and friends and the images may be downloaded.  We will then discuss with you the components of your package and what prints or enlargements you require.  It usually takes 2-3 weeks for prints and enlargements / High Res Image Disc, 2 weeks for album pre-design 2-3 months to produce an album after selection of page design and cover.

12.  Can guests take photographs at our wedding as well?  Will this be an issue?

There is no issue with this!  Although it would be preferable that when we are photographing the family portraits that guests can refrain from taking pictures until after the professional pictures are taken – otherwise this can cause distraction and will be evident in the photographs.  Guests are not permitted to take pictures during the couple’s portrait session due to the distraction this may cause.

13.  Tell us more about the albums you supply and the design process?

When you meet with Daniel to tailor a package suitable for your requirements – you will have the option of purchasing an album as part of your package (usually discounted) or you can purchase one later after the wedding at normal price.  We offer a variety of landscape style magazine wedding albums with the option of full leather / photo cover’s or polished aluminum.   We have sample albums for your viewing at the wedding meeting plus a sample of cover materials to choose from.

If you have chosen a wedding album – then approximately 30-40 pages are pre-designed for your perusal – you will get to choose which pages you would like in your wedding album.  The design process takes about 2 weeks and in take about 5 weeks to produce a wedding album.

14.  What type of prints do you offer?

We offer from 8″ x 10″ prints up to 32″ x 60″ prints.  These can also be laminated on core-board ready for hanging if required for an extra charge.  You have a choice of either lustre or metallic finish to your prints.  An option price list will be given to you as part of your package.  We also offer Canvas.

15.  We want to book you!  What do we do now?

Just call or email Daniel to organise a wedding meeting to discuss what components you require as part of your custom package – after selecting this – there is a wedding photography contract that must be signed and a deposit of 50% of the wedding package that must be paid to secure your wedding day (so no-one else has access to booking your wedding day).  Before the wedding meeting – it is preferable that you have your wedding itinerary finalised so that we can put your package together more effectively and so its more cost effective for you.  You will need to supply an updated itinerary of your wedding day 2 weeks before the wedding day with the final payment of the wedding package.

Alice - Hi Daniel,
I really like the way you shoot your photos. I think it really catures the moment.
My boyfriend and I are planning to take pre-wedding photos in Melbourne, about March to May, but we will have wedding ceremony oversea. I just wonder what sort of price range you are at? What is the standard package for pre-wedding photo? Do you provide wedding dress for photo shoot? Thanks.
Alice
